Doing for others is not common place these days. Fortunately there are organizations and individuals that step-forward to fill the void. I extend my respect and regard to the following organizations and individuals.
Charity founded the Red Earth Waldorf Kinderten in Sedona Arizona over 15 years ago. She has wonderfully impacted the lives of hundreds of children and their parents since that first day. I am one such parent with two such children. Should you ever find yourself in Sedona, just ask anyone at the local natural foods grocer if they know of Charity. You will be greeted with a warm smile and a new friend.
Ruth Hartung
Ruth co-founded 7 Center Yoga Arts studio in Sedona Arizona. Over the years, the studio has transformed from a simple yoga studio to a yoga temple integrated with the Sedona community. Students travel from around the world to attend Ruth's month-long yoga teacher trainings given four-times annually. If this is not enough to occupy Ruth's time, she also manages Mystis - The Children's Project and the International Yoga College. I personally know of many people whose lives have changed because of their work with Ruth.
Ysha Oakes
In preparation for the birth of our son Luca, my wife prearranged for help after the birth. She located two postpartum birth doulas that would help both mother and baby. The experience was wonderful and we came to learn that both doulas had been trained by the same person -- Ysha! Months later, we received a call that Ysha was scheduled to conduct a two-week doula training in Boulder and that the training location had become unavailable. We offered to host the training in our home. Ysha teaches the art of caring for both mother and baby for a period of 42-days after the birth. The training is very comprehensive and includes nutrition, emotional counseling and ayurvedic home spa care protocols for both mother and baby. Ysha is a gift to mothers and babies!
Brigitte Mars
Brigitte has a contagious passion for the pursuit of good health. In addition to being a certified herbalist, Brigitte is a raw food "non-cooking" instructor. She has authored several books in both areas. Brigitte is also a guest lecturer and radio personality in and around Boulder Colorado as well nationally. It seems with the frequency that you see Brigitte around town, that there must be more than one of her! In this photo, she is assisted during a non-cooking class by her devoted partner Tom.
Marti Hopper, PhD
Marti is the Assistant Director of the Boulder County Rape Crisis Center known as Moving To End Sexual Assault. As a volunteer with MESA, I can personally attest to how emotionally-draining this work is. I volunteer a few hours at a time scattered over months. Marti does it full-time. As with most non-profits, the pay is not what motivates a person. I salute Marti for the work that she does!
Debby Hamilton, MD
The modern practice of medicine can easily become impersonal. We have all experienced the doctor appointment that started with waiting 40-minutes only to spend 7-minutes with the doctor. Dr. Debby, as she prefers to be addressed, is an exception to this experience. Although a Board Certified Pediatrician, Dr. Debby has pursued additional knowledge about nutrition, holistic alternatives and preventive medicine in overseeing the health of your children. When you are waiting for follow-up information, Dr. Debby is the person that calls you at home -- imagine that!
